White Mountains Bus Trip - 2004

Panarama of the White Mountains

The Dallas Sierra Club's annual Memorial Day bus trip went to the White Mountains Wilderness this year.  The wilderness area is near Ruidoso, New Mexico.  It has been a few years since we did a bus trip to the White Mountains and we were all looking forward to a wonderful trip. Except for a bit of a rocky start (our bus got there 8 hours late, but that's another story), we were not disappointed.  We had great weather, beautiful views, and great hiking conditions.  As you can see in the picture above, there was not a cloud in the sky.  The tall mound in the picture is White Horse Hill, which is 10,255 feet high.

This year I was the leader of Group 2.  Our hike went up Little Bonito Creek, south on the Crest Trail, and then down Bonito Creek, for a total distance of about 15 miles.
