The Dallas Sierra Club has organized a bus trip to Big Bend National Park over the Thanksgiving Holiday every year for almost 25 years.  This year's trip included a canoe trip through Boquillas Canyon, dayhiking and backpacking in the Chisos Mountains, backpacking in the desert near The Chimneys, and backpacking on the Mesa.  In addition, this year we added a backpacking trip in Big Bend Ranch State Natural Area, just west of Big Bend National Park.

This year I went on trip 1, the canoe trip. We canoed the Rio Grande River between Rio Grande Village in the eastern end of the Park and LaLinda.  This trip goes through magnificent Boquillas Canyon, the eastern most of the three large canyons the Rio Grande cuts through the Park.
